CPR C "Basic Rescuer" and Automated External Defibrillation (AED) Certification

The OCA is now offering a 4 hour course that teaches participants how to administer CPR to adults, children and infants.

The City of Ottawa has equipped over 400 Ottawa public access establishments such as community centres, arenas and public pools with AEDs.  The number of public and private business implementing AED protocols in the workplace has been increasing in Ontario, since 2001.

CPR/AED course content includes:  -  Scene Management and Primary Assessment, Anatomy and Physiology  - Adult, Child and Infant CPR, Choking Procedures, Cardiovascular Emergencies – (heart attack, angina, stroke and transient ischemic attack, cardiac arrest)  -  Shock

This course offers annual certification for the use of an AED.  An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is a lifesaving device that automatically analyzes heart rhythms and advises the operator to deliver the appropriate treatment.  CPR can help circulate oxygen and stimulate the electric current of the heart, known as ventricular fibrillation, an otherwise fatal rhythm.  The chain of survival indicates that for every minute a person is in cardiac arrest, their chances of survival decreases approximately 10% per minute.  Simply, CPR can sustain the life, while AED can save a life.

This course also covers: Annual Re-certification requirements for ALL levels of CPR and AED protocols in the workplace or public sectors.

This is an approved course by the Ontario WSIB and Health Canada and meets the standards required by the construction industry.
